Job Summary:

Supports the company’s domestic and international crude-oil trading team through providing recommendations to traders on improvement opportunities. Assists in financial-exposure management, squaring off futures/swaps positions, and reconciles against risk books. Assists traders with review, analysis, and explanation of daily profit/loss variations and position exposures such as futures contracts and crude-oil physical inventories. Assists crude-oil traders with contracts, deal entry, deal-execution duties, and customer relationships.

 

Responsibilities:

Works with Supply Coordination and Optimization to offer guidance on crude selection. Responsible for managing the efficient and cost effective crude supply for various refineries via vessels, pipelines, and trucks. Optimizes refinery operations, crude runs, and overall refinery netbacks in conjunction with economic planners and supply coordinators. Researches and resolves trade-related discrepancies using blend of knowledge, experience, and analysis. Works with Crude Trading Controls group to investigate and determine root cause for variances. Acts as the liaison with the Risk and Analytics group. Maintains trading books and participates in development and enhancements of physical inventories and futures-contracts position management tools for trading teams to facilitate decision-making. Acquires and maintains external and internal resources to develop market intelligence and insights into regional supply/demand issues. Formulates point of view on market fundamentals. Computes metrics and conducts economic evaluations to identify profitable trading opportunities. Prepares data analysis for the crude-oil trading team and works with the Market Analytics group to produce relevant market research applicable to domestic and international crude-oil trading. Analyzes commercial trading opportunities and vets improvement opportunities with traders or trading management. Supports Accounting and Crude Trading Controls with reconciliation of position reports to systems of record. Collaborates with System Optimization to incorporate trade information into linear programming models used to determine refineries’ operating plans. Participates in optimization modelling to evaluate supply opportunities. Provides analytical support for logistics optimization studies.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance, Economics, or Business Administration

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 5 years of downstream and midstream energy-industry experience, with assignments in Commercial support, financial risk management, and corporate finance. Minimum of 3 years (inclusive) of Commercial Scheduling experience supporting crude-oil inventory management at multiple refineries. Minimum of 3 years (inclusive) of Commercial Scheduling experience managing deliveries of both domestic and international crude oils by scheduling deliveries through pipelines, trucking, and waterborne sources. Minimum of 1 year (inclusive) of experience analyzing daily trading and financial risk exposure, futures and physical positions, and profit/loss statements for a downstream energy company.
