Job Description

Supports all aspects of Western Refining retail locations and associated departments, including resolving issues between outside vendors, retail locations, and occasionally departments within the company. Requires a strong technical understanding of Electronic Point of Sales (EPOS) computer skills and networking. Supports various peripheral equipment found in a retail environment configured by retail technicians. Competence in converting technical knowledge to layman terms in order to effectively communicate with store personnel. Self-motivated individual capable of working with minimal direction in order to complete assigned tasks. Supports locations remotely, over the phone, and by traveling to retail stores to correct hardware malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance. Ensures that all high priority issues are addressed and resolved within the required service level agreement of a 24/7 customer. Performs upgrades on existing software and hardware, and assists in the rollout of new software and hardware at retail locations. Minimum one week after hours on-call and one weekend a month on-call required.

Job Tasks:

  • Provides support to all retail locations and departments to include technical computer related problems, and networking and peripheral communication issues reported by store managers and/or district managers. This includes fuel dispensers, computer hardware, EPOS hardware, and networking hardware as well as the operating systems and back office PDI/RMS software. Works directly with all levels of store and Retail Accounting personnel. Travel required on an as needed basis. Monitors store network connectivity and addressing outages.
  • Assists in projects/work, to include new locations by installing hardware and software on all equipment needed to create a complete store. Assists in software upgrades to EPOS equipment and back-office PC's at over 170 retail locations. Travel required on an as needed basis.
  • Maintains equipment inventory, rotates stock, and tracks mileage utilizing strong organizational skills and methods.
  • Learns and completes certification on all VeriFone EPOS equipment and peripheral equipment as needed.
  • Quickly and effectively troubleshoots and corrects all revenue generating issues in order to minimize impact to retail locations in a 24/7 environment.
  • Minimum one week after hours on-call and one weekend a month on-call required


  • Thorough knowledge of technology in order to analyze, interpret, and apply information.
  • General knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems Win7 required.
  • Must have knowledge of and skill in using various computer software applications, such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Exchange, Access, Powerpoint, Monarch, HRIS, and accounting systems, including the ability to perform maintenance on existing programs and identify or coordinate development of user requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's license as well as current vehicle registration and insurance.
  • Mathematical skill to calculate and interpret data using percentages, ratios, averages, and medians.
  • Skill in operating various office equipment, such as personal computer, calculator, scanner, and copy machine.
  • Written communication skill to compose correspondence, reports, and proposals.
  • Oral communication skill to communicate with customers, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to make presentations outside work group.
  • Interpersonal communication skill to work effectively with others in order to coordinate activities and arrive at mutual decisions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service by answering questions, providing accurate information, and responding to requests on a timely basis.
  • Ability to provide support to other employees by being directly responsible for finding out what information, services, or support other employees need to do their job.
  • Ability to plan and schedule activities over the course of several months. Regular review and coordination of activities are required for implementation.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to work effectively with periodic supervisory guidance. General internal policies, guidelines, and procedures are utilized.
  • Must meet company vehicle insurability requirements.

  • Light physical effort under 20 pounds.
  • Major portions of daily work require application of manual skills involving motor coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Driving own automobile to get to stores for repair and exchanging of equipment.
