Summary

Provides process control engineering solutions and support to refinery Operations and Technical teams. Implements and sustains best practices for value-driven, loop tuning, complex PID loops, inferential estimators, and multivariable predictive controls to reduce variation and achieve profitability. 

Key Responsibilities

  •     Assists engineering leadership with design of control strategies through achieving and sustaining improvements in advanced process controls, loop tuning, inferential estimator and complex PID (proportional integral derivative) loops. 
  •   Utilizes knowledge of DCS (distributed control system), PLCs (programmable logic controllers), SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), instruments, analyzer, process networks in process control configuration and implementation.  Ensures adherence to corporate standards, guidelines and performance metrics to define, implement and promote optimal utilization and benefits of process control engineering solutions.  
  •     Provides support for all process control applications, maintenance, installation, migration, control loop management as well as steady state and dynamic models.  Monitors performance and recommends modifications to improve reliability of models.  Supports configuration of process control technology versions and operator interfaces.  Performs assessments and assists with process control best practices network. 
  •  Mentors and trains process control technicians and operators. 
  •   Ensures refinery process unit business objectives by association of refinery economics into dynamic process control.  
  •   Provides support for site projects related to process control engineering.  Conducts feasibility and simulation studies evaluating economic value and impact of process controls engineering installations.  Influences sound process control project methods.   
  •  Acts as liaison with partners in development and enhancement of new technologies, company/vendor problem resolution and quality assurance practices.
  • Keeps abreast of evolving technical research and new technologies relative to multivariable control, linear algebra, numerical optimization and estimation theory and related topics.

Requirements

Education

·         Minimum Bachelors of Science in chemical engineering required.

·         Advanced engineering degree preferred.

Experience

·         Minimum 5 years engineering experience in refining and/or petrochemical industry with ability to learn dynamic matrix control.  

·         Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work with plant operators and applying current process control theory including multivariable model-based predictive control and inferential technologies to refining process units.  

Skills

·         Proficient in configuration and implementation of Aspen Manufacturing Suite (APC/IQ specific).

          Knowledge of Honeywell TPS/Experion DCS systems.
