Summary

 

Assures that company resources are directed and utilized safely and effectively in the equipment condition assessment and inspection functions within the refinery. The incumbent is a refinery specialist for inspection to ensure that equipment maintenance and inspection activities are conducted in full compliance with established laws, codes, standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • With the assistance of the Refinery Inspection Superintendent, and in collaboration with Engineering, develops and maintains comprehensive written Inspection department procedures, guidelines and work instructions. Provides oversight of the facility QA manual to ensure effective utilization and compliance.
  • Assures facility compliance with refining standards, jurisdictional regulations and codes required for the inspection and repair of piping, and other pressure-containing equipment. 
  • Conducts assurance program by auditing site’s work in areas such as, but not limited to: non-destructive examination (NDE), visual inspection, data input into IDMS, PMI, welding and heat treatment.
  • Ensures compliance with established standards.
  • Identifies gaps, reporting findings and recommendations to management. Leads gap closure effort.
  • Provides support for routine maintenance, unit shutdowns and turnarounds through work scope development. Minimizes non-budgeted, unplanned repairs identified during turnarounds by promoting thorough and well-planned, on-stream inspections prior to turnaround.
  • Understands critical process variables that affect equipment reliability.  Directs inspection activities to areas of the refinery based on changing operating conditions.
  • Provides oversight of the facility cooling towers inspection and repairs.

Requirements

 

EDUCATION

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • API certifications 510, 570 and 653 required.
  • CWI certification preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in refinery or chemical, working with plant fixed equipment mechanical integrity programs required.
  • Knowledgeable with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, Pressure Piping Codes, basic NDE methods and API Inspection Codes.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Knowledgeable in damage mechanisms that affect refinery equipment including fundamentals of corrosion, basic forms of corrosion, and methods of inspection for detection.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with key refinery and network stakeholders.
  • Experience working with RBI inspection programs.
