Assistant Controller, Marketing

Position Summary:

This position assists in the direction of the organization’s accounting functions, primarily for accounting related to marketing operations including Retail, Branded, and Unbranded accounting. Develops and maintains sound accounting processes to support accurate and timely capture of financial information to enable internal and external reporting.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports the controller organization in developing and ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of all accounting records, from the initial transaction level up to the consolidated financial statements, in compliance with GAAP and related regulatory requirements. 
  • Responsible for understanding the functional and GAAP reporting requirements as well as consulting and guiding the development and maintenance of the company’s general ledger and accounting information systems necessary to support them.
  • Establishes business partnerships with the CFO of Marketing and the Marketing organization to ensure understanding of accounting impacts and results and to provide financial business support within and outside of the Controller organization. Connects the Marketing business process and activities with the resulting financial transaction.
  • Oversees and directs a team of managers and accountants responsible for management accounting and reporting.
  • Facilitates improvement of processes and internal controls to ensure data integrity around accounting and reporting. Evaluates end to end processes and partners with other functions to drive process improvement.
  • Oversees day to day accounting and ensures activities around monthly and quarterly closing, including account reconciliations, are coordinated between area of responsibility and accounting.  Facilitates improvement of processes and internal controls to ensure data integrity around accounting and reporting.
  • Supports SEC and other statutory reporting requirements as requested, including contribution of footnote disclosure information, including participation in the design, review, and recommendation of accounting policies, processes and procedures to enable a continuous improvement environment. 
  • Participates in planning and executes on all special projects as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
  • CPA, MBA or relevant certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years accounting, audit or related experience required.
  • Experience in energy or retail marketing operations strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience managing and leading teams strongly preferred.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions preferred.
